The basics begin with knowing the names of the strings, and tuning your guitar, and then learning the scales. You have to be well with your fingers if you want to play bass. There are all sorts of different exercises you can learn to help improve your ability to play. Make sure you practice every day so you can get the basic techniques down. If you do not have the bass in the right way is learning to be quite difficult.
