Why you should build a Weissenborn slide guitar

Just wanted toanswer some questions on the Weissenborn slide guitar, steel back I built a few months ago using only simple hand tools while living on my boat! I had a lot questions about this guitar and thought I would take the time to basically explain why if you are considering building A Guitar first time is a great way to cut your teeth on because it is easy to build compared to an Acoustic Guitar with a very special form of neck and demanding complete and accurate fret space
As some of you know I also built a web site that features slide guitar, lap steel and a number of interesting all things about the fascinating world of slide guitar. For those of you who are interested the guitar was built from a modified plans a Weissenborn Style 2, 1920 using maple and Australia the only difference is I did the original 2.5-inch neck depth rather than 1.5inches and the body 4.5 inches instead of 2.5 inches … the sound is wonderful as is the volume and the rich tones … making weissy sound so good?
I have written a series of articles and published them online in a few places and there is a whole world of information for exploring not free! the sound is absolutely fantastic and no I was more surprised than me! I had taken years to start the courage to actually start building a guitar and basically do not know what he was concerned! The choice of wood, Australian Arce had much to do with good results and is not really surprising, as Maple is a cousin of the famous Koa wood that Most Guitars are made from slides.
I also did the body of the guitar much deeper than the original style and served two plans about two inches wider. The plans come on CD ROM and you can get the plan printed on A1 paper or OCs architects .. its probably much easier to work most people. All the basic instructions are there, step by step and everything is explained very carefully taking into account the fact that for many will be their first guitar building. Why choose Weissenborn slide guitar as a first build? Well, in a way, is cheating, because like most people are aware, the strings not played, but the fingers of his left hand only with a glass or steel or brass slides
Therefore, if the frets space is really very little out what really tends to notice! you never get away with it in a proper acoustic guitar, where you have to play the chords with your fingers!
